Dr Kazutomo Suenaga wins the 2006 Sir Martin Wood Prize (2006/11/13)
The 2006 “Millennium Science Forum” organized by Oxford Instruments held at International House in Tokyo on Tuesday 14th November 2006.
The Millennium Science Forum was established in 1998 to promote scientific exchange between Britain and Japan and award a prize to a young researcher from a Japanese University or research institute who has performed outstanding research in the area of condensed matter science. The prize is named after Sir Martin Wood, Founder and Honorary President of Oxford Instruments plc.
Previous winners of the “Sir Martin Wood Prize” include Dr Yasunobu Nakamura of NEC Corporation, Dr Tokushi Kizuka, Nagoya University, Dr Katsuya Shimizu, Osaka University, Dr Keiya Shirahama, Associate Professor at Keio University, Professor Ichiro Terasaki, Waseda University, and Dr Toshimasa Fujisawa, from NTT basic research laboratories, Dr Yuzo Ohno, Tohoku University and Dr Tsuyoshi Kimura from Lucent technologies.
The Millennium Science Forum steering committee is chaired by Professor Noboru Miura from The university of Tokyo and 6 senior Professors from Japanese Universities sit on the committee.
The “Sir Martin Wood Prize” winner receives \500,000 in cash and the opportunity to give a series of lectures in British Universities, including Oxford University.
The winner of the 2006 “Sir Martin Wood Prize” is Dr Kazutomo SUENAGA from the Research Center for Advanced Carbon Materials at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST).
Dr Suenaga will be awarded the prize and present a lecture on “Electron microscopy and spectroscopy on single molecules” at the Millennium Science Forum.
Key note speakers at the event will include Professor Maki Kawai from The University of Tokyo and Professor Martyn Chamberlain from Durham University in the UK.
Further details of the prize and nomination procedures can be obtained from the Secretariat at msf@oxinst.co.jp or home page www.msforum.jp
