Blog Action Day 2009 (2009/10/15)

Thursday 15 October 2009 is Blog Action Day!  This is an annual event that seeks to bring together bloggers from across the world in blogging about the same issue on the same day.  By doing this, Blog Action Day hopes to create global dialogue on a discussion of global importance.  Blog Action Day 2009 is set to be the biggest web-based social change event that has ever taken place.

In support of Blog Action Day, bloggers from all walks of life across the UK will be taking part.  The UK government – including the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and its Embassies across the world – will also be taking part.  David Warren, British Ambassador in Tokyo and an established blogger, will take the opportunity to blog about this year’s theme: climate change.

Global climate change is an issue that effects us all.  The need for urgent action to combat climate change is critical.  The Kyoto Protocol will expire in 2012.  World leaders will meet this December at the 15th Conference for the Parties (COP15) in Copenhagen to try to reach agreement for a binding framework on climate change to succeed the Kyoto Protocol.  The UK is hoping that all participants will agree to ambitious action on climate change.
