1In recognition of his contribution to relations between the United Kingdom and Japan, Dr Tsuneo Nakahara, Vice Chairman of Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd has been appointed an Honorary Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. Her Britannic Majesty’s Ambassador to Japan, Sir Stephen Gomersall presented the honour to Dr Nakahara on 2nd June at the British Embassy.

Dr Nakahara has been a key figure in Sumitomo Electric’s international expansion, which has led to five manufacturing and sales companies in the UK, employing some 500 people. In his position as Manager of Sumitomo Electric’s Research and Development Group he has helped improve UK-Japan science and technology collaborations. Under his leadership of the UK-Japan High Technology Industry Forum, many productive and substantial links between companies, large and small in the UK and Japan have been created.
