The Embassy's Economic section works in Japan to promote UK economic interests in an open and expanding global economy.

That means:

• Reporting on developments in the Japanese economy and regulatory environment for UK policy makers so that they can make the right decisions, sharing best practice.
• Promoting financial and regulatory reform in Japan and the Asia region, in Japan and the UK's shared interest.  
  Encouraging and facilitating negotiations in the WTO, G8 and other multilateral forums.  
• Representing the UK government on economic and financial issues in Japan and promoting close links on these issues between the UK and Japanese governments and central banks.
