Science and Innovation Section
The Science and Innovation Section is part of the UK’s global Science and Innovation Network, jointly funded and managed by the Department of Innovation, Universities and Skills and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
The Science and Innovation team in Japan is one of the largest teams in the S&I Network, with 11 staff based in the British Embassy in Tokyo and 2 staff based in the British Consulate General in Osaka. The team is the sole representation for UK science and innovation in Japan and works closely with the major science funding agencies, public and private sector organisations and networks in the UK.
There are many opportunities to increase collaboration between the UK and Japan, reflecting the priority attached to science and innovation by both governments and the strength of the research base in both countries. Science and innovation also has a major role to play in tackling the challenges facing the world today – such as climate change, infectious disease and global insecurity – and helping to develop the best possible policy solutions.
